They’re savage beasts are Mondays. Officially the point where the weekend is well and truly over and done with, it’s by far the most difficult day of the week to navigate and we all need a pick-me-up on them from time to time. Luckily for you; we’ve got just that, a guest mix from trance duo Hiddenagenda.
As residents of Sheffield’s much loved euphoric soiree Off the Rails, the pair have played alongside the likes of Sean Tyas, Rank 1 and Agnelli and Nelson and frequently shone amongst the various members of trance royalty. This mix captures them at their dynamic best.
Firstly, for our readers who might not know too much about you, tell us who you are and what your style is about.
We are a trance duo from Sheffield and have been playing together for over 8 years now, having first met back in 2004 where we started out playing at the Gatecrasher pre-parties and after-parties. Our sound varies slightly depending on the time of night we’re playing, i.e. whether we’re on warm-up duties or whether we’re playing later on in the night. But it is best described as ranging from the deep, melodic and progressive to chunky, bass-line driven trance with uplifting melodies.
Where do you hold residencies?
Our residency is at OTR (Off the Rails) in Sheffield. We have been residents there since 2009 and the crowd at OTR have always been proper clubbers and very knowledgeable about the music, so this has really helped us to develop and grow as artists. Our residency at OTR has provided us some of our most memorable gigs and we’re extremely thankful to all the clubbers there who have supported us over the years.
So you’ve done a mix for us; thanks! Can you tell us a little about it?
Thank you for inviting us as guests. With the mix we’ve tried to showcase the breadth of our sound in a one hour journey; so we have started things off nice and deep and dark and then built the energy up as we progress through the mix. We hope that everyone enjoys listening to it.
You’re DJ’ing at the Mint Festival warm-up party event at the end of the month. What does the event entail and how much of a prelude to the Festival is it?
This is a huge event at Mint Warehouse in Leeds and for the first time ever it sees four of the North’s trance brands all coming together under one roof; Digital Society, Goodgreef, Rong and OTR. The Mint Warm-Up should give clubbers a good taste of what’s to come at the festival itself as both DS and Goodgreef are hosting their own arena together at the festival and a few of the artists feature on both line-ups.
From our own perspective we’re really looking forward to the Mint Warm-Up party. The crowd in Leeds are always up for a party and we always have a lot of fun playing in the city. The Mint Warehouse looks like a great venue and it’s our first time playing there too, and it’s always exciting to play a new venue.
And the festival itself - what can people expect to get from the event?
The trance arena on its own is absolutely massive!! But the whole festival is going to be pretty special… As you would expect it’s a huge multi-genre line-up across 7 arenas so there really is going to be something for everyone. A festival always provides a unique experience for clubbers with huge production and atmosphere so we‘re definitely looking forward to experiencing the whole show and checking out all the arenas, not just the trance arena.
Finally what lies in the future for you guys?
Well aside from the Mint Warm-Up event we have a couple of residency gigs at OTR in Sheffield lined up, plus the annual visit to Ibiza for Island of Trance week in September for the third year running. This has previously involved gigs on the Goodgreef boat party, as well as pool-side sets at Kanya and various other things so we’re really excited about getting back out there again this year.
We also have a couple of collaboration tracks due for release in the next few weeks. Firstly there’s a remix we’ve done with Scott Lowe of a track by Ukraine’s Lence & Pluton which has just gone out on promo on Alter Ego Records. Following that we have an original track, ‘Menace’, that we made together with Liam Wilson forthcoming on Aria Digital.
