Hertfordshire’s best kept secret returns for another year with a summer festival that’s going from strength to strength.

Located in the heart of the district’s countryside Standon Calling manages to provide a huge host of acts, events and happenings without ever losing a feeling of quirky charm.

Previous acts to play the festival include Florence and the Machine, Friendly Fires, Anna Calvi and Mumford and Sons. This year’s headliner marks a rare festival appearance for legendary space rockers Spiritualised. Also playing are Battles, John Cooper Clarke and Hercules and Love Affair.

However, it’s the acts you don’t know that really set the festival apart; Standon Calling has a laser sharp eye for attracting an incredible array of critically acclaimed breakthrough acts that actually exceed the hype.

Last year's festival showcased a murder mystery, festival wide with a diverse cast and even more diverse fashion, an interrogation room for slightly less numbing band interviews (nothing like a lie detector to really get to the bottom of things) and a fully realised 20’s era village that made a refreshing change from the sponsored tents and septic burger vans you might see at other festivals.

This year’s theme promises to be equally grandiose and won’t just be about the costumes. ‘Gods & Monsters’ will shape and influence the stages, set design, our artists, installations and the interactive theatre.

Also, don’t be coy... you want to throw some shapes at the late licensed nightclub in the cowshed, just admit it.
