Review: Underworld - Beautiful Burnout
18th Dec 2007
The second single from Underworld's quintessential dance album of 2007 is a moody eight minute epic. More suited horses galloping across the beach than a jumping dance floor, Beautiful Burnout is a stunning departure from traditional dance music recipes. What begins as a soft entrance accompanied by Hyde's mesmeric chanting lyrics builds into a polyrhythmic finale reminiscent of previous Underworld tracks. As an emotional musical masterpiece, this is probably better enjoyed privately in a soul searching moment. If it was to be played to a dance music crowd, people would probably fall asleep or go under. Best to save it for that quiet down time after the party is settled, when falling asleep/ going under is more acceptable.
