So how did it all begin?

It began with watching a good friend mix after we had been to Peach at Camden Palace on a Friday night. He showed me the basics and i eventually bought his Soundlab belt drive decks. I think that was back in around 93. I got my first proper set at Pandemonium @ Club Innocence after giving a demo tape (now CDs beck then) to a friend of a friend at Sunnyside Up one Sunday morning. He listened to it on the way to Sundissential at Heaven on the Sunday night and loved it. He runs an agency and said he receives loads of Demos and mine really stood out from the rest!

Where did the name come from?

I couldnt think of anything quick enough as they wanted to send the flyer for Pandemonium to print so i said put me down as DJ Andy Simpson. Its easier to prove who i am that way too.

I eventually dropped the DJ bit and became Andy Simpson!

I stuck Insurgence in as its my promotion

What gave you that initial push?

I would have to say the love for the music, the atmosphere and the people.

The scene isnt like it used to be back then, but its great to see the hard house heads keeping the dream alive.

There are so many good promotions at the moment that you get spoilt for choice of where to go on a weekend!

Did the DJing, Production, Promoting come 1st?

DJing first, then promoting, then production.

I made a track with my best mate Jimbean, you can buy it on Trackitdown:

Jimbean Vs Andy Simpson - Old Skool

Whos throwing the best parties at the moment?

Now theres a tricky one!
Frantic have always thrown amazing parties so i would go for Frantic.

Which other countries have you played/put parties on?

None yet, im playing at Hard Dance Ibiza 2012 in September which im REALLY looking forward to as its my first trip to Ibiza.

What was the first event you ever played at/put on?

The first proper set for me was Pandemonium, and if im totally honest thats where i did one of my worst ever mixes, the nerves go to me a bit!

Ive helped a lot of friends with various promotions, i would say the first one i had proper input in was Adrenalin @ Crash (London). The launch night was rammed!

Whats the best event youve played at/put on?

The set that stands out for me most would be the Mind Over Matter Christmas party @ Camden Palace (now Koko).

It was always my dream when i started mixing to play there as it is such an iconic venue and i had so many good nights there.

Other DJs you rate?

Karim is my idol, Paul Glazby, Ilogik, Grady G, Jimbean, Matt Pickup, Mini Minx, Lucy Fur, Kirsty Lee James.

There are so many good DJs i could go on forever

What do you do outside of the dance music scene?

Ive just moved house so im busy doing the odd jobs, but ive got a great family that i love to spend time with. I like going out and socialising with mates and watching F1 when i can!

What advice would you give to up and coming Dj's/MC's?

Only give out demos that your 110% happy with. Ive had people give me demos saying there are a couple of mixes that arent that good but the rest is fine! You control your destiny so if you want something, go get it, never give up!

Anything else you want to say?

Erm let me think, oh, if there are any artists that want to send me their promos then send me the links through Facebook!

If you had a time machine what year would you go back to and why?

Thats a tough one, i would probably go back to school and do a bit better, i couldnt really be bothered with it, but looking back i wish i had paid more attention.

Knightrider or A-team?

A-Team for sure, i aint getting on no plane you crazy fool!!!

Any shouts you would like to make?

To everyone that i know, everyone that has supported me over the years, my friends and family, i love you all!
