Sunday 15th June saw the highly anticipated final of the annual Babycream DJ Competition at Liverpool’s Albert Dock and the crowning of the undisputed winner James Rand of 2008’s competition.

Rand beat of stiff competition from the other fiver finalists to become the third annual winner of the Babycream DJ Competition.

Judging the technical wizardry of the six finalists was an unrivalled panel of industry experts including the awesome twosome K-Klass, babycream DJ comp winners and Cream Ibiza residents, Cassette Jam, also Cream resident Andy Mac.

Andy Mac comments on the prowess of winner James Rand: “It was such a tough decision and it gets more difficult to decide each year, as the bar gets higher and higher.

“Creamfields is such an esteemed music event, so as a judge you have a responsibility to choose the act you think is most worthy of such a gig- all of the DJs this year really proved that they have what it takes, but James’ had a certain quirkiness and undeniable energy and confidence in his music that just gave him the edge.”

Each DJ had 25 minutes on the decks to impress the judges before the winner was announced!

James Rand added: “I still can’t believe I won, I’ve been on a high since I found out and to be deemed the winner amongst such great competition and by such esteemed judges has blown me away.

“I can’t wait to play at Creamfields, it’s always been a dream to do it and I think I’ll have to pinch myself when I see all those faces staring back at me in August!”

Rand, walked away with the coveted chance to play a gig at one of the UK’s biggest dance fests, Creamfields, as well as a 30 minute mix on Radio City, a meal for two in one of Liverpool’s chicest restaurants and a bundle of DJ goodies!

James Rand’s first gig will be Babycream’s 5th birthday celebration, with Cream legend Alison Limerick on Friday 27th June 2008.
