Tauntra - Annan Live REVIEW!
15th Jun 2007
Friday night and I’m watching four local lads playing Reggae with blasts of Punk Rock. And I don’t mean the other way around or an easily diluted derivative of Ska-punk for that matter. No, this is all about echo, high hat hits, basslines that reverberate around the ceiling, playing a guitar with precision, and most of all, bravery and not giving a damn if the audience likes it or not.
But Tauntra have also done their homework, and live, it’s clearly on a very personal level. Although there’s no fear and despite some of the faces staring back at them with curiousity, given that the band are all under 20 and their chosen style of music, it’s quickly noticeable that it’s in their nature to be experimental. Through avoiding repetition early on, they’ve left no clues as to where they get their inspiration from. Whether they own any Clash, Ruts or early PIL, who knows. For them, it’s all about the break, the snap, the howl, the click, and most importantly, the dub.
