CentralCityRollergirls is not going out soon..
the central city rollergirls are an all female roller derby sports team, formed in late 2007 by a group of skating friends who are now determined to get the whole of the west midlands rolling in 2008!
ccr roll weekly in the west midlands with 20+ women skating every practice and are actively looking for more women to strengthen the team. the league is run by the skaters, for the skaters, with every member, male or female, player or referee having an equal say in the decision making process. it's run in a true diy fashion with everyone pitching in to help out at events and fund-raisers. old school quad skates are the order of the day and practices are tiring but fun and a great workout.
members of central city have already taken part in the uk's first inter-league bout, and have lent skaters to other leagues for competition. ccr have witnessed action close up on the streets of las vegas, when they travelled to rollercon, the largest convention in the us for derby players, where they gained a wealth of knowledge and information to bring back to the uk! chet wisconsin and ouija broad also had the privilege of skating with a new york based team "the bronx gridlock" whilst they were in the states.
it's not all work and no play though (sounds like plenty of fun though - dave) as, we have marshaled the first rollerdisco to have opened in birmingham since the 1980's on broad street. we recently threw a successful fundraiser at our sponsors venue "scruffy murphy's" to combat 3rd world poverty.
