Around 3 young men kill themselves each day in britain. calm, the campaign against living miserably, is all about helping these young men when they hit a wall. so whilst our website offers articles and information and our helpline allows callers to talk to a professional (anonymously and in confidence), for some it can be even hard to physically talk - that's why we're launching webchat and texting support services. for many, typing or texting an advisor can is a much easier way to get help.
in fact, we piloted a webchat service to great success and found it to be used by kids from 9 years onwards.
and with the texting service, if someone were to text us about say, self-harm, we can text back giving information on where to go for help, useful numbers and websites - practical stuff which is what these young men really need.
once they've signed up to the calm service, we'll work with them to improve their wellbeing and make their lives less miserable, whether that be giving them opportunities - like a day at the gym - or just being there to listen and guide.
our ambition is to become part of young men's lives, providing information when it's needed and fun stuff too. no stigma. no authoritarian tone. more like an anonymous mate.
