I'm just back from Portsmouth where I stayed for two nights at the Duke of Buckingham.

I had booked a single room which was very small but was quite comfortable and very clean.

I took once dinner and once lunch there and the food is great. The staff is cheerful and very helpful.

I do regret the fact breakfast wasn't possible but I heard it should be changing soon.

I do recommend the Duke of Buckingham which is near every place interesting or important in Portsmouth.

Very easy to find and convenient for ferry terminal. Smallroom but had everything we needed. Should have gone for breakfast rather than got something on ferry.

The hotel was easy to find, and I was able to park, but had to pay. The staff were friendly and helpful. My room was clean and had everything I needed, despite being small. The shower worked very well, and there were plenty of towels. I was not disturbed at all by noise.
The food was well cooked and very reasonably priced, and again, the service was excellent.
If I go back to Portsmouth I would certainly stay there again.

Well, I'm back home from Portsmouth and I have to say, The Duke of Buckingham was the perfect location and accomodation for my visit. My room had a view of the Spinnaker Tower and the top gallants of HMS Warrior. Perfectly fitting for the purpose of my visit. Very thoughtful of the staff.

I have seen other reviews commenting that the sinks in the room were too small to fill the kettles provided. I over came this by using the large coffee mug supplied in the room to fill the kettle with. Sometimes you have to be a bit "McIverish" when travelling.

The food was excellent and very reasonably priced and every member of the staff wee very warm cheerful and friendly. I would go back again in a heart beat.

By the time my trip to Portsmouth ends, I'll have spent 9 nights at the Duke of Buckingham and it was very well worth it. The food here is great! A ham sandwich with cheese for lunch was not one of those processed ham slices you can hold up and see light through, this was a carved thick slice of roasted ham. Breakfast is very good traditionally English by name and very satisfying.

The staff are wonderful. Very friendly and warm and very interested in your visit and helping out as much as they can. My room is small, large enough for a bed, chest of drawers, TV and ensuite shower etc., and suits my needs perfectly
