The Yard & Sprechen join together to bring a very special live & intimate gig by one of the most prolific ever musicians as we come Wally Badarou to Manchester.
With ancestry from Benin, West Africa, Wally Badarou became a key figure as an unofficial "fifth member" of Level 42, co-writing and co-producing many of their tracks. His reputation for futurist pop saw his fingers jam the synth melodies that grace some of the most memorable and irresistible songs in modern music. From Fela to Mick Jagger, Robert Palmer, Gwen Guthrie, Jimmy Cliff, Herbie Hancock & James Brown alongside works by Grace Jones and Talking Heads as part of the Compass Point All Stars, it’s way easier to talk about the musicians Badarou hasn’t worked with!
Tracks like 'Hi-Life', 'Chief Inspector' & 'Endless Race' are now all staples of many discerning record collections and widely regarded as timeless masterpiece. His album 'Colors Of Silence' has become something of a holy grail for Balearic mafia whilst his solo track 'Novela Das Nove' (Kiss Of The Spider Woman) was on regular rotation at The Hacienda by Mike Pickering. DJ Paulette cited her memory of hearing the track in there that it made her and her sister "dance and sweat so hard they ruined their hair".
This is a rare chance to catch Wally up close & personal within one of Manchester's finest best grassroots venues.
DJ pickings on the night by Be With's Rob Butler.
