Supported by Arts Council England and produced by Music Worldwide, Jaliyaa Kumbengo is a live and participatory programme bringing together Gambian griot masters Sefo Kanuteh & special guest Jali Musa Jobarteh for a unique evening of cultural exchange. In Mandinka, "Jaliyaa" refers to the griot tradition - a living practice of music, oral history & cultural memory passed through generations - while "Kumbengo" translates as coming together or gathering. The evening combines: Supported by traditional Drum and Dance Troupe Tanante A pop-up photographic exhibition tracing Sefo's musical lineage & journey A FREE interactive music workshop exploring kora, voice & collective improvisation (open to all levels). Participants are welcome to bring their own string or hand percussion instruments, or simply join through voice and singing. Those wishing to participate in the FREE workshop must reserve a ticket. This African night presents a 2 amazing groups with live performance and a workshop blending traditional Mande music with contemporary global influences. Rooted in generations of griot tradition, the event offers audiences a rare opportunity to engage directly with West African musical heritage through making, learning & shared experience, culminating in a vibrant concert performance. Workshop participation is optional. Please note if you would like to participate in the free Workshop this will commence at 5:30pm; the main performances will start at 7:30pm. Advance Tickets at £15 + booking fee / Walk-in tickets available on the door, but use Skiddle to purchase or bring cash (No card payments)
