Room2Move takes over The Eagle Inn for its debut event with Manchester stalwart Kickin’ Pigeon.
Conjurer of sublime dancefloor vibes, Kickin’ Pigeon (aka Matt Ward), is equal parts party-starter club DJ, an eclectic musical storyteller, and an educator as the house and techno buyer at Piccadilly Records. Many DJs and electronic music fans that have stepped foot inside the Oldham Street store, through the heavy iron door, and over to the listening booth, have likely come into contact with Matt and been recommended the latest funked-up piece of tripped-out dance wax.
Hot on new trends and having enough consistent flair to have constructed a timeless style of his own making, KP is no stranger to groove-laden house cuts from the American Midwest, dubbed-up boogie tracks from lesser-known labels, and psych-drenched, colourful techno warpers – to say we’re excited at the thought of being entertained by Kickin’ Pigeon at our home-away-from-home, The Eagle Inn, is a massive understatement.
Synonymous with the Red Laser nights and the no-holds-barred party series Wet Play, Kickin’ Pigeon’s place in various crews and collectives means he’s ripping up the dancefloors of Manchester and Salford on the regular. From filling up the clubland cathedral (slash ex-MOT garage) The White Hotel, to gracing Eastern Bloc Records with his all-night vinyl sets, Mr. Ward has shone his rave-light across the best of the best in the North West.
A scroll through staple eclectic radio station NTS will reveal KP’s ‘Galactic Bounce’, a seemingly endless archive of shows that give Kickin’ Pigeon’s far-reaching style a place to live for home listeners.
So, join us on March 15th, where we’ll be decking out the back room at the best boozer in Salford with the only three things we’re gonna need: two turntables and a mixer.
Residents Tom2Trax and Liam Oliver will be providing warm-up and post-pigeon vinyl selections, and like birds of a feather, we’ll all be together grooving the end of winter away.
