Lucas Santtana

The Bahian multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer Lucas Santtana’s unique mix of Brazilian music with jazz and electronica has brought him worldwide critical acclaim.

Lucas Santtana began his career in the early 1990s. He incorporates elements of tropicalia, psychedelic samba, baile funk, ska, and MPB (Brazilian Popular Music) into his songs, but also incorporates elements of afro-dub, chamber music and electronic music, creating a sound that is both traditional and modern.

In addition to his solo work, Lucas Santtana has also collaborated with other musicians and bands, both in Brazil and internationally. He has worked with artists such as Seu Jorge, Elza Soares, and Tom Zé.

In 2011, Lucas Santtana made his mark in Europe with the help of the British label Mais Um Disco! who introduced the artist to DJ Gilles Peterson and his BBC Radio 6 programme Worldwide.
