Thursday 6 August 2026, 7pm
The Black-E, Liverpool
On Hiroshima Day, Hibakusha brings together live electronica, communal song and human voices for an intimate seated event about conflict, survival, memory and collective hope.
Experimental musician and sound artist John Biddulph performs his piece Hibakusha, an electro-acoustic work shaped from electronics, processed voices, acoustic sound and fragments of testimony that he was invited to play at the World Expo in Osaka.
Liverpool-based artist Beau Beaumont brings a distinctive multidisciplinary set that spans techno and experimentalism for an electrifying performance.
They are joined by Asylum Link Merseyside Choir, whose performance brings together singers from different countries and backgrounds through shared music and community.
No prior knowledge of experimental music is needed. This is an accessible, seated listening event with space for reflection as well as live performance.
The evening moves between experimental electronics, song and collective voice with breaks between each act, bringing a carefully programmed live event in which each performance offers a different response to displacement, violence, resilience and the possibility of connection.
The word hibakusha is most closely associated with the survivors of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
The event takes this history as a starting point for a wider reflection on the human impact of war and conflict, while recognising the experiences of people who continue to live with displacement, persecution and loss today.
The purpose is not to recreate or speak on behalf of those experiences, but to create a space for listening, reflection and solidarity.
