Jeru The Damaja

About

Kendrick Jeru Davis, known as Jeru the Damaja, is an American rapper and record producer. He is known for his 1993 single “Come Clean” from his debut album, The Sun Rises in the East, ranked as one of the 100 greatest hip-hop albums of all time.

One of the most important voices in golden-era hip hop, Jeru the Damaja emerged from Brooklyn in the early 1990s as part of the legendary Gang Starr foundation, working closely with DJ Premier and Guru to help define the sound of East Coast underground rap.

Best known for classic albumsThe Sun Rises in the EastandWrath of the Math, Jeru built a global reputation through razor-sharp lyricism, uncompromising social commentary, and stripped-back production that became essential listening for generations of hip hop heads. Tracks includingCome Clean,Ya Playin’ Yaself,D. Original, andMe or the Papesremain cornerstone records of the culture.

Across more than three decades, Jeru has stayed true to the principles that made him a standout voice in hip hop — authenticity, substance, originality, and craft. His influence can still be heard across contemporary underground rap, boom bap revivalism, and conscious hip hop worldwide.

This special Dublin show at The Sugar Club brings one of hip hop’s true architects back to an intimate room setting — the way this music was meant to be experienced.

Expect classics, deep cuts, raw energy, and a direct connection to one of the defining eras of hip hop culture.
