In The Mood For Love - 14th Feb Valentines Day

The most iconic film representing 1960's Hong Kong in set and fashion - a time when Hong Kong is bustling with trading and manufacturing across its harbours. A film centred around Mr. Chow and Mrs. Chan, where both of their spouses are having an affair together and who slowly develop feelings for one another.

Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung are both amazing actors from Hong Kong - Leung won Best Actor in Cannes Film Festival, and this film is often listed as one of the greatest films of all time in Asian cinema.

Those who have seen the film before know the music and the costumes play vital parts in the film, and we are combining these two elements in real life.

We are screening the film [silent] alongside a live string quartet (goosebumps!) performed by local musicians Riot String Quartet.

Riot Quartet are a Birmingham/London based string quartet who enjoy playing and performing an eclectic mix of music. They formed in 2016 and have since then been working throughout the UK & Europe with various different artists and producers.
Consisting of Ning-Ning Li, Helena Britten, Lizze Chan-Foxley and Sara Gale, all four members graduated from Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, with the focus always being on enjoying all music they can find. Notably they have performed with Xhosa Cole as part of his ‘Charcole Collective’, as well as the singer songwriters Rosie Tee and Billy Doze. They play a rich variety of genres from pop at weddings and corporate events, to classical and contemporary. They have also recorded strings for producers such as Gerry Parchment and Carlos Lellis at the infamous Abbey Road Studios.

Come dress up with your beautiful Cheongsam (Shanghainese long dress) that's sitting in your wardrobe waiting for an occasion to wear!

The set will be 1 hour 30 mins (two 45 mins sets), there will be a vegan wonton noodles break in between (same food that they eat in the film!).

Come and join us for this special Valentine's Day event.

This event is made possible, in part, thanks to the Neighbourhood Action Co-ordination Small Grants Fund for Kings Heath and Brandwood.
