 sweetfoot Offline Points:218 Posts: 23 | sweetfoot's Review of Funkademia with DJ Jon Busstop at One Central Street Overall rating:  From a guy who has been from Jamaica to Jersey (NY),Canada to Cardiff (Wales)DJ Jon Busstop has to be the best DJ me and my boys have ever heard.Next time i go to a night he is DJing he will be getting a big drink from me.We danced all night with a great crowd of people.We tend to go to soul nights,old school,r&b and hip hop nights all over the place,but none of the DJ's get close to Jon.Quite frankly he should be working in the "superstar dj" bracket as most of them are cat. | ||||||||||||||

araby Offline Points:14 Posts: 1 | araby's Review of Funkademia at One Central Street Overall rating: I have to say firstly that I never ventured to the rear of the club to check out the facilities and atmosphere there, so there may have been a dancefloor there and I may be talking rubbish, but I have to say that I was gob-smacked at the comeplete and utter lack of dancing here, for a Funk club! There was an area which looked like it might be a dancefloor near the bar, but until 11.30 it was empty- then from 12.00ish it was packed with people standing around drinking- why the heck do so many people go to a funk night and refuse to move?? The only time the crowd livened up was when CHART MUSIC came on (Maddona, Blondie...)- even then there wasn't anywhere in the front half of the club designated for dancing- why not?! I was also very disapointed by the music- a mix of OK funk and bland pop (Barry White for goodness sake!) with FAR too little quality Soul or RnB (one Aretha track and one Sam & Dave isn't enough of either genre!) The prices are good- but then you get what you pay for and the staff are good- quick and friendly service at the bar and the door, but I wont be going again I'm afraid and it makes me sad to say so. | ||||||||||||||

Still not totally sure about the venue (i think it was better at Space). Brilliant music, didn't stop dancing all night and there are some great tunes to throw shapes to. The expense of getting in didn't seem to reflect the quality of the club and then the actual drinks cost loads as well. The music was good and it wasn't too crowded in places. There were three male toilets and a couple of urinals for something like 200 people - urgh. | ||||||||||||||
