Manchester Freshers Travel
With the uni being so close to the town, it’s likely your only travel expense will be from digs to your place of study or heading home for the weekend.
Bus Services
In the city, the usual well-developed network of local bus services will get you from the student areas into town in just a few minutes. The main bus station (which is having a huge overhaul) is situated by the Holiday Inn on Tithe Barn Street, which will get you both around town and to local villages and further afield.
By Car
If you’ve got a car then Preston is very well served by the local Motorway Network being just off the M6, the M55 to Blackpool (great for a fun weekend away) and the M65 towards Blackburn and Burnley.
By Train
The mainline train station is situated about a five minute walk from the Uni at the near end of Fishergate where you can take the West Coast line to London and Glasgow in only a few hours. It will take you around 2.5 for London and 3 for Scotland and about £25-30 if you have a rail card. Or you can head to the coast at Blackpool in half an hour or Manchester in 40 minutes on the frequent rail service.
By Taxi
Getting around by taxi is pretty simple and cheap too. There are many cab firms in the city and lots of ranks on Fishergate, Friargate and the main nightlife areas to get you home safely. Millers (01772 884000) are the cheapest and biggest and come recommended - they don't put their prices up at night!
