Hay Fever is a new production of Noël Coward’s comedy, with Christine Baranski making her West End debut as Judith Bliss and Richard E. Grant also starring. Directed by Emily Burns, it follows the Bliss family at their country home, where Judith’s attempt to host a quiet weekend unravels when each family member invites a guest of their own.
The result is a house full of clashing personalities, parlour games, put-downs and unrequested encores as the Blisses struggle with hosting and, more importantly, with compromise. It is a sharp, fast-moving set-up built around Coward’s comic writing and a cast led by two well-known stage and screen names.
