Hay Fever is a new production of Noël Coward’s comedy, directed by Emily Burns. The play follows Judith Bliss, a retired stage star who already misses the applause.
Set at the Bliss family’s country home, the story centres on Judith, her novelist husband David, and their children, Sorrel and Simon. When Judith invites a young fan to stay for the weekend, each member of the family has a guest arriving too, and the household quickly tips into confusion.
The weekend unravels through parlour games, put-downs and unrequested encores, as the Blisses prove they are not suited to hosting or compromise.
Key fact: Christine Baranski makes her West End debut as Judith Bliss, with Richard E. Grant also in the production.
