Back by popular demand, and in celebration ofPride Month, join Queer EcologistConnor Butler for a hands-on cyanotype printmaking workshop celebrating the diversity of nature through art.
Developed in the 1840s, cyanotype is an early photographic process that uses sunlight to create striking blue-and-white botanical prints. By arranging pressed plants onto light-sensitive paper, you’ll craft your own unique artworks to take home.
As we create, we’ll explore the fascinating world of plants that challenge traditional categories—sex-changing trees, non-binary flowers, and species that defy rigid life cycles. Connor will share how these plants have been used as symbols within the LGBTQ+ community and uncover their deep-rooted queer connections in science, culture, and mythology. Expect creativity, curiosity, and a fresh perspective on what we consider “natural.”
Pride Monthis a time tocelebrate LGBTQ+ communities, visibility, and inclusion. This workshop offers a welcoming space to reflect on diversity in both people and the natural world, blending storytelling, ecology, and art in a joyful and thought-provoking way.
No prior experience is needed, just bring your curiosity and an open mind.
