About Oh, Mary!

Oh, Mary! at the Trafalgar Theatre, London is a dark comedy by Cole Escola, directed by Sam Pinkleton. Set in the weeks leading up to Abraham Lincoln’s assassination, it follows a miserable, suffocated Mary Todd Lincoln through a story shaped by unrequited yearning, alcoholism and suppressed desires.

The play runs for 80 minutes as a one-act performance and has been described by The New York Times as “one of the best comedies in years”. It received Tony Awards for Best Leading Actor in a Play, won by Cole Escola, and Best Direction of a Play for Sam Pinkleton.

For the London transfer, the role of Mary Todd Lincoln is played by Mason Alexander Park until 18 July, Cole Escola from 20 July to 15 August, and Jinkx Monsoon from 17 August to 26 September. The cast also includes Kate O’Donnell, Oliver Stockley, Dino Fetscher and Giles Terera.

Key facts: Running time 1 hour 20 minutes, with no intermission. Suitable for ages 14+. Children under 4 are not permitted.

Catherine Tate will no longer perform in Oh, Mary! at the Trafalgar Theatre.
