About

This November, Mistletoe Productions presents the premiere of The Colour of Oil, a powerful new drama exploring trauma, accountability, and transformation. Written by Anthony Gretton and directed by Amber Williams, the production runs 25–29 November at the Bread and Roses Theatre, Clapham.

Set over 48 hours in a run-down London pub, the play follows Alison, a woman trapped in a deeply unhappy relationship. A series of unexpected encounters pushes her to confront long-buried secrets, painful cycles, and the cost of taking control of her own life.

Presented in an intimate staging, the production offers audiences a close view of the shifting dynamics within the pub. The late-2000s setting provides a subtly nostalgic frame, while the design choices introduce a growing sense of unease beneath the everyday. Repeated patterns and behaviours shape the play’s rhythm, gradually tightening until the story breaks open.

Balancing intimacy with emotional intensity, The Colour of Oil explores cyclical abuse, misogyny, generational trauma, and the difficult work of taking responsibility for one’s own story.
