Conductor Rimma Sushanskaya forged an international reputation as a solo violinist, the last pupil of David Oistrakh. In recent years, as Principal Associate Conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra, she has nurtured the outstanding talent of the British violinist, Mathilde Milwidsky in many concerto performances. The elegant Romances by Beethoven are contrasted by energetic symphonies by Beethoven and Haydn - orchestral fireworks for November 05. The premiere of Symphony No. 104 was given at a benefit concert for Haydn and was received as enthusiastically as any of his London works. After the concert, Charles Burney gushed that Haydn’s 1795 symphonies were “such as were never heard before, of any mortal’s production; of what Apollo & the Muses compose or perform we can only judge by such productions as these.”
