Mother Courage 26 at Shakespeare’s Globe is a new production of Bertolt Brecht’s anti-war masterpiece, Mother Courage and Her Children. The play follows Mother Courage as she drags her cart through a war-torn wasteland, trying to survive by making a living from conflict.
This staging brings Brecht to the Globe for the first time, in a production translated by Anna Jordan and directed by Globe Associate Artist Elle While. It uses live music, biting humour and a darkly hedonistic style to explore survival, capitalism and complicity.
Globe Artistic Director Michelle Terry leads the cast as one of theatre’s most complex female characters, in a production described as visceral, defiant and ferociously human.
