Mother Courage 26 at Shakespeare’s Globe is a new production of Bertolt Brecht’s anti-war masterpiece, Mother Courage and Her Children. This is the first time Brecht has been staged at the Globe, with the piece translated by Anna Jordan and directed by Globe Associate Artist Elle While.
The story follows Mother Courage as she drags her cart through a landscape shaped by war, greed and conflict, trying to survive by making a living from devastation. The production combines live music, biting humour and a modern staging of this classic protest play, with the Globe’s yard brought to life through a focus on fury, empathy and joy-as-rebellion.
Michelle Terry leads the cast in one of theatre’s most complex female characters in a production that asks direct questions about survival, capitalism and complicity.
