Mother Courage 26 at Shakespeare’s Globe is a new production of Bertolt Brecht’s Mother Courage and Her Children, staged at the theatre for the first time. The play follows Mother Courage as she pulls her cart through a war-torn landscape, trying to survive by making a living from conflict while protecting her children.
This modern staging is described as a protest piece with live music, biting humour and a focus on survival, capitalism and complicity. It is translated by Anna Jordan and directed by Globe Associate Artist Elle While.
The production is led by Globe Artistic Director Michelle Terry as one of theatre’s most complex female characters, in a darkly hedonistic staging that aims to bring the yard vividly to life.
