The Car Man at Sadler's Wells Theatre is Matthew Bourne’s award-winning dance thriller, loosely based on Bizet’s opera. It returns with one of New Adventures’ most recognisable scores and a story set in a greasy 1950s garage-diner in the American Mid-West.
The plot follows a small town whose lives are thrown into turmoil by the arrival of a handsome and enigmatic stranger. Heat, desire, greed, lust, betrayal and revenge drive the action as the story unfolds through Matthew Bourne’s vivid storytelling.
The music features Terry Davies’s score, including Rodion Shchedrin’s Carmen Suite after Bizet’s Carmen. The production is presented as a dance thriller and runs for 1 hour 55 minutes, including one 20-minute interval.
