The Car Man at Sadler’s Wells Theatre is Matthew Bourne’s award-winning dance production. Loosely based on Bizet’s opera, it moves the story from 19th-century Spain to a greasy 1950s garage-diner in the American Mid-West, where the arrival of a handsome and enigmatic stranger unsettles a small town.
The story follows a chain of greed, lust, betrayal and revenge, told through Matthew Bourne’s vivid storytelling and one of New Adventures’ most recognisable scores. The music is by Terry Davies, featuring Rodion Shchedrin’s Carmen Suite after Bizet’s Carmen.
Running time: 1 hour 55 mins, including one 20 minute interval.
Recommended for ages 12+. Strictly no under 5s. This production uses haze and theatrical smoke effects, and a gunshot effect. No exchanges or refunds are available after purchase.
