The Car Man at Sadler's Wells Theatre is Matthew Bourne’s award-winning dance production, loosely based on Bizet’s opera Carmen. It is set in a 1950s garage-diner in the American Mid-West, where the arrival of a handsome and enigmatic stranger unsettles a small town and drives events towards greed, lust, betrayal and revenge.
The production combines Matthew Bourne’s storytelling with a score by Terry Davies, featuring Rodion Shchedrin’s Carmen Suite (after Bizet’s Carmen). It is presented as a dance thriller and is part of New Adventures’ repertoire.
