About Stranger Things: The First Shadow

Stranger Things: The First Shadow at the Phoenix Theatre takes audiences to Hawkins in 1959, before the events of Stranger Things. The story follows a town with everyday problems: Jim Hopper’s car will not start, Bob Newby’s sister does not take his radio show seriously, and Joyce Maldonado just wants to graduate and leave town. When new student Henry Creel arrives, his family discovers that a fresh start is not so simple.

Brought to the stage by a multi-award-winning creative team, this production uses theatrical storytelling and stagecraft to tell a new chapter in the Stranger Things story. It is set at the beginning of the timeline and is described as a story that may hold the key to the end.

Running time: approximately 3 hours, including an interval.

Before you book

Recommended for ages 12 and over. Under 5s are not permitted, and under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. The production contains gunfire audio, loud noises, explosions, haze, smoke, flashing lights and strobe, strong language, and depictions of mental health conditions and disorders.

The venue opens 90 minutes before the start time, and you should arrive at least 30 minutes before the performance. Latecomers will be admitted at a suitable point, which may be the interval. No exchanges or refunds are available after purchase.

Accessible performances are scheduled for Sunday 20th September 2026 at 15:00 (BSL Interpreted), Sunday 27th September 2026 at 15:00 (Audio Described), Sunday 4th October 2026 at 15:00 (Captioned), and Sunday 6th December 2026 at 15:00 (Captioned).
