About Stranger Things: The First Shadow

Stranger Things: The First Shadow at the Phoenix Theatre is set in Hawkins, 1959, before the events of Stranger Things. It follows young Jim Hopper, Bob Newby’s sister Joyce Maldonado and new student Henry Creel as everyday life in town begins to shift.

Brought to life by a multi-award-winning creative team, the production uses theatrical storytelling and stagecraft to take audiences back to the beginning of the Stranger Things story.

Running time: Approx 3 hrs including an interval.

Before you book

Recommended 12+. Under 5s are not permitted, and under 16s must be accompanied by an adult. The production contains gunfire audio, loud noises, explosions, haze, smoke, flashing lights and strobe, strong language, and depictions of mental health conditions and disorders.

The venue opens 90 minutes before the start time. Please arrive by 30 minutes before the start time; latecomers will be admitted at a suitable point, which may be the interval. No exchanges or refunds are available after purchase.

Accessible performances are scheduled for Sunday 20th September 2026 at 15:00 (BSL Interpreted), Sunday 27th September 2026 at 15:00 (Audio Described), Sunday 4th October 2026 at 15:00 (Captioned) and Sunday 6th December 2026 at 15:00 (Captioned).
