The Smile of Her at the Marylebone Theatre brings Christine Lahti’s new play to London for a strictly limited run. Lahti, an Academy Award and Emmy winner, performs the autobiographical piece herself in a solo role that follows one woman’s life from 1950s suburban America into a changing world.
The play explores family mythology, misogyny, ambition, motherhood and the pressure to be “a good girl”. Funny, furious and deeply personal in tone, it examines the stories we inherit, the voices we silence and the effort to reclaim ourselves.
