Allegra is a heart-warming comedy with music, written by Olivier and Tony Award nominated playwright Peter Quilter and directed and choreographed by three-time Olivier Award winner Stephen Mear. The show stars Dame Maureen Lipman in the title role, alongside John Middleton as Ronen and Elizabeth Bower as Anna.
Allegra is full of life and has an irresistible urge to sing. She bursts into song at home, in the street and in local shops and cafés, with the orchestra sometimes seeming to play only in her imagination and sometimes spilling into the real world. Her brother Ronen and her carer Anna try to keep life steady as they support her.
The production brings together music, humour and family story, with songs including Singin’ in the Rain, Ain’t No Sunshine, Dream A Little Dream Of Me and Happy Days Are Here Again.
Key facts: Dame Maureen Lipman stars in her first UK tour for 20 years; the show is from Peter Quilter, writer of End of the Rainbow and Glorious!, and is directed and choreographed by Stephen Mear.
