About My Neighbour Totoro

My Neighbour Totoro at the Gillian Lynne Theatre in London’s West End is a stage adaptation of Studio Ghibli’s 1988 animated feature film. Created in collaboration with Improbable and Nippon TV, it is adapted for the stage by Tom Morton-Smith.

The production is from the Royal Shakespeare Company and Executive Producer Joe Hisaishi. It has won six Olivier Awards and follows sisters Satsuki and Mei during one extraordinary summer, with a story centred on childhood and imagination.

Key facts: Running time 2 hours 40 minutes, including a 20-minute interval. Winner of six Olivier Awards.

Before you book

Age guidance: recommended for ages 6+. The production is not suitable for children under 6, including babes in arms, and children under 4 will not be admitted to the auditorium. All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over, who must be seated with the child throughout the visit. Every person entering the theatre, regardless of age, must have a valid ticket. Children need to occupy their own seat at all times, and single seats cannot be left in a row when booking. Customers should check suitability for any children in their party, regardless of the official age recommendation.

Younger children and babes in arms are welcome at relaxed performances. The show features puppets, including some large-scale puppets that interact in audience space, themes of an ill parent in hospital, and live music and sound effects that may be loud at times and possibly scary for some younger children.
