About My Neighbour Totoro

My Neighbour Totoro is now playing at the Gillian Lynne Theatre in London’s West End. This stage production of Studio Ghibli’s 1988 animated film is created in collaboration with Improbable and Nippon TV, and is brought to the stage by the Royal Shakespeare Company with Executive Producer Joe Hisaishi. It is adapted by Tom Morton-Smith.

The show follows sisters Satsuki and Mei through one extraordinary summer, as they discover a magical fantasy world shaped by childhood imagination. It has won six Olivier Awards and has been described as a record-breaking return to the West End.

Duration: 2 hours 40 minutes, including a 20 minute interval.

Before you book

Age guidance: recommended for ages 6+. The production is not suitable for children under 6 years old, including babes in arms, and children under 4 years old will not be admitted into the auditorium. All children need to occupy their own seat throughout the performance, and all persons aged 16 or under must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over who must be seated with them.

All persons entering the theatre, regardless of age, must have a valid ticket. Single seats cannot be left in a row when booking. Younger guests are welcome at relaxed performances, and babes in arms are welcome at those performances.

The production includes puppets, including some large-scale puppets that interact in audience space. It also contains themes of an ill parent in hospital, live music, and sound effects that can be loud at times and possibly scary for some younger children.
