About

About My Neighbour Totoro

My Neighbour Totoro is playing at the Gillian Lynne Theatre in London’s West End. This stage adaptation of Studio Ghibli’s 1988 animated film follows sisters Satsuki and Mei through one extraordinary summer, with a story centred on childhood, imagination and a magical fantasy world.

The production is a collaboration with Improbable and Nippon TV, adapted by Tom Morton-Smith and presented by the Royal Shakespeare Company with Executive Producer Joe Hisaishi. It has won six Olivier Awards.

The show is based on the celebrated 1988 animated feature film and is now back in London.

Key facts: Running time is 2 hours 40 minutes, including a 20 minute interval.

Before you book

Age recommendation is 6+. The production is not suitable for children under 6 years old, including babes in arms, and children under 4 years old, including babes in arms, will not be admitted into the auditorium. All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over, who must be seated with them, and every person entering the theatre needs a valid ticket. Children must occupy their own seats throughout the performance.

Single seats cannot be left in a row when booking. Younger children and babes in arms are welcome at relaxed performances. The show features puppets, including some large-scale puppets that interact in audience space, live music and sound effects that may be loud at times and possibly scary for some younger children, and themes of an ill parent in hospital.
