About

About My Neighbour Totoro

My Neighbour Totoro is playing at the Gillian Lynne Theatre in London’s West End. This stage production of Studio Ghibli’s 1988 animated film is created in collaboration with Improbable and Nippon TV, brought to the stage by the Royal Shakespeare Company, with executive producer Joe Hisaishi and adaptation by Tom Morton-Smith.

The show follows one summer in the lives of sisters Satsuki and Mei, telling a coming-of-age story about childhood, imagination and a magical fantasy world. It has won six Olivier Awards and returns after its original acclaimed run.

The production has been described as a five-star hit and a theatrical event of 2025. If you are deciding whether it is right for your group, the key things to note are the running time, the age guidance and the children’s seating rules.

Running time: 2 hours 40 minutes, including a 20 minute interval.

Before you book

Age guidance: recommended for ages 6 and over. The production is not suitable for children under 6 years old, including babes in arms, and children under 4 years old, including babes in arms, will not be admitted into the auditorium. All children must occupy their own seat throughout the performance.

All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over, who must be seated with the child and accompany them throughout the visit. All persons entering the theatre, regardless of age, must have a valid ticket.

Content and seating: the show features puppets, including some large-scale puppets that interact in audience space. It also contains themes of an ill parent in hospital, live music and sound effects that may be loud at times and possibly scary for some younger children. Single seats cannot be left in a row when booking. Younger children and babes in arms are welcome at relaxed performances.
