About

About My Neighbour Totoro

My Neighbour Totoro at the Gillian Lynne Theatre, London, is the stage adaptation of Studio Ghibli’s 1988 animated film. The production follows one extraordinary summer in the lives of sisters Satsuki and Mei, as childhood imagination and fantasy shape their world.

This return production is a record-breaking, award-winning staging, winner of six Olivier Awards. It is presented by the Royal Shakespeare Company in collaboration with Improbable and Nippon TV, adapted by Tom Morton-Smith and with Executive Producer Joe Hisaishi.

Described as a coming-of-age story, the show combines live performance with puppetry, music and sound effects to tell its story on the West End stage.

Key facts: Running time is 2 hours 40 minutes, including a 20-minute interval.

Before you book

Age guidance: recommended for ages 6+. The production is not suitable for children under 6 years of age, including babes in arms. Children under 4 years of age, including babes in arms, will not be admitted into the auditorium. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over, who must be seated with them throughout the visit.

All children need to occupy their own seats at all times during the performance. All persons entering the theatre, regardless of age, must have a valid ticket. Single seats cannot be left in a row when booking. Younger children and babes in arms are welcome at relaxed performances.

The show includes puppets, including some large-scale puppets that may interact in audience space. It also contains themes of an ill parent in hospital, and live music and sound effects that are loud at times and may be scary for some younger children.
