About My Neighbour Totoro

My Neighbour Totoro at the Gillian Lynne Theatre in London is the record-breaking West End staging of Studio Ghibli’s 1988 animated feature film. It is created in collaboration with Improbable and Nippon TV, adapted by Tom Morton-Smith, and brought to the stage by the Royal Shakespeare Company with Executive Producer Joe Hisaishi.

The production follows sisters Satsuki and Mei through one summer and explores childhood fantasy and the power of imagination. It has won six Olivier Awards and has been described by critics as a five-star hit.

Key facts: Running time 2 hours 40 minutes, including a 20 minute interval. Winner of six Olivier Awards. Based on Studio Ghibli’s 1988 animated feature film.

Before you book

The age recommendation is 6+. The production is not suitable for children under 6 years old, including babes in arms, and children under 4, including babes in arms, will not be admitted into the auditorium. All children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over, seated with the child throughout the visit. All persons entering the theatre, regardless of age, must have a valid ticket, and children need to occupy their own seat at all times.

Single seats cannot be left in a row when booking. The show features puppets, including some large-scale puppets that will interact in audience space, themes of an ill parent in hospital, and live music and sound effects that will be loud at times and may be scary for some younger children. Younger guests and babes in arms are welcome at relaxed performances.
