About

About My Neighbour Totoro

My Neighbour Totoro at the Gillian Lynne Theatre in London is the stage adaptation of Studio Ghibli’s 1988 animated film. Created in collaboration with Improbable and Nippon TV, and brought to the stage by the Royal Shakespeare Company with executive producer Joe Hisaishi, it follows sisters Satsuki and Mei during one extraordinary summer shaped by childhood, imagination and a magical fantasy world.

The production has won six Olivier Awards and is adapted by Tom Morton-Smith (Oppenheimer). It presents the film’s coming-of-age story for the West End stage, with the focus on the sisters’ experience of discovery, family and the transformative power of imagination.

Set in the West End, the show is currently playing at the Gillian Lynne Theatre, making it a major London theatre visit for audiences who want a stage version of a much-loved Studio Ghibli story.

Running time: 2 hours 40 minutes, including a 20-minute interval.

Before you book

Age guidance: 6+. The production is not suitable for children under 6 years of age, including babes in arms. Children under 4 years of age, including babes in arms, will not be admitted into the auditorium. Younger children and babes in arms are welcome at relaxed performances.

Children need to occupy their own seat at all times. All persons aged 16 or under must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over, who must be seated with the child and accompany them throughout the visit. Every person entering the theatre, regardless of age, must have a valid ticket.

The show features puppets, including some large-scale puppets that interact in audience space, live music and sound effects that can be loud at times and possibly scary for some younger children, and themes of an ill parent in hospital. Single seats cannot be left in a row when booking.
