Arcadia at Duke of York's Theatre is Sir Tom Stoppard's play in a new West End production directed by Carrie Cracknell, following its critically acclaimed run at The Old Vic. It brings together science, romance and the tension between chaos and order in a story that moves across two centuries.
Set in a country house in 1809 and in the present day, the play follows teenage prodigy Thomasina Coverly as she explores mathematics, nature and the forces that shape the universe, alongside author Hannah Jarvis as she researches a mysterious chapter in Lord Byron's life. As their stories intersect, the play asks whether life can ever be fully understood, or whether disorder always remains part of the pattern.
This production opens at Duke of York's Theatre from 20 June and plays for a strictly limited 12-week run. The theatre is being newly renovated into the round especially for this production.
