Dark of the Moon at The Arches, London is a new musical about witchcraft, small-town prejudice and love. It brings together two contrasting worlds: a rural Appalachian town and the mystical world of witches and warlocks in the Smoky Mountains above it.
The story follows Barbara Allen, a human girl, and John, a curious witch-boy, as they try to build a life together despite the pressures of their communities. Their relationship is shaped by a deal made by the dark of the moon, giving the piece its central tension.
The score reflects the clash between those worlds with a blend of country/bluegrass and rock, matching the show’s supernatural story and rural setting.
