About

About A Mirrored Monet

A Mirrored Monet at The Arches, London, is a new musical by Carmel Owen that follows Claude Monet in Paris in 1916 as he struggles to complete The Water Lilies commission that will define his legacy. With food and essential supplies at stake as the First World War closes in, Monet is also forced back into his memories of early artistic life, his relationship with Camille Doncieux, and his friendships with Renoir and Bazille.

Inspired by letters and diaries from Monet and his peers, the production draws on Belle Époque Paris, with music and projections used to bring the period to life. It is a dramatic retelling of the man behind the masterpiece, centred on Monet’s work, relationships and creative pressure.

Key facts: New musical by Carmel Owen; set in Paris, 1916; age guidance 12+.
