About

About A Mirrored Monet

A Mirrored Monet at The Arches, London is a dramatic new musical by Carmel Owen about Claude Monet in Paris in 1916, as he struggles to complete the commission that will define his legacy: The Water Lilies.

With food and essential supplies at stake as the First World War encroaches, Monet looks back on his early years as an artist, his relationship with Camille Doncieux, and his friendships with Renoir and Bazille.

Inspired by letters and diaries from Monet and his peers, the production moves through the cafés, studios and salons of Belle Époque Paris, with music and projections used to evoke the period.

Key facts: This production is set in Paris in 1916 and centres on Monet’s struggle to finish The Water Lilies commission.
