Variations and Virtuosity

Sunday 8 November 2026 | Performance at 7.30pm

Enjoy an evening of some of the most beautiful and expressive music in the orchestral repertoire.

The concert opens with Vaughan Williams's much-loved Fantasia on Greensleeves - gentle, nostalgic, and instantly recognisable, evoking the sound world of English folk song.

Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto follows, one of the most popular concertos ever written. Brimming with lyricism, sparkle, and emotional warmth, it is performed by acclaimed violinist Mathilde Milwidsky, celebrated for her expressive playing and musical insight.

The programme concludes with Elgar's Enigma Variations, a richly coloured set of musical portraits filled with wit, tenderness, and sweeping grandeur - including the iconic Nimrod, one of the most moving passages in all of classical music.

Conducted by Rimma Sushanskaya, this concert is ideal for both seasoned concert-goers and those discovering orchestral music for the first time.
