Variations and Virtuosity

Sunday 8 November 2026 | Performance at 6 pm

Join the National Symphony Orchestra at Cadogan Hall for the grand finale of its 2026 season, featuring Elgar's much-loved Enigma Variations, Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto performed by acclaimed violinist Mathilde Milwidsky, and Vaughan Williams's enchanting Fantasia on Greensleeves.

The concert opens with Vaughan Williams's beloved Fantasia on Greensleeves, one of the most evocative works in the English orchestral repertoire, inspired by the timeless folk melody. Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto follows, a masterpiece of lyricism, brilliance and emotional warmth, performed by the outstanding Mathilde Milwidsky, whose expressive artistry has captivated audiences across the UK and beyond.

The evening concludes with Elgar's Enigma Variations, a richly imaginative series of musical portraits depicting the composer's friends and acquaintances. From moments of humour and affection to the noble grandeur of the famous Nimrod variation, this enduring masterpiece remains one of the most cherished works in British music.

Conducted by Rimma Sushanskaya, this uplifting programme offers an ideal introduction to orchestral music for newcomers while providing plenty for seasoned concertgoers to enjoy.

Tickets for this performance are available at a special 30% discount off official Cadogan Hall prices.
