Ivanov is a contemporary staging of Chekhov’s comic drama, presented at the Bridge Theatre, 3 Potters Fields Park, London SE1 2SG. The story follows Nikolai, a man who seems to have everything in place: a successful career, a marriage to the perfect woman and a life that should feel settled. Instead, he finds himself battling burnout, mounting debts and the sense that everything is beginning to unravel.

With his wife unwell and a party at the Lebedevs on the horizon, Nikolai tries to work out whether he can save his marriage, his career and his will to live at the same time. Simon Stone brings the play into the contemporary world, joined by the same creative team behind The Lady from the Sea.

This production centres on emotional collapse, marriage and self-doubt, while keeping Chekhov’s comic edge intact. It is a clear choice if you want a modern interpretation of a classic play with a strong dramatic premise.
