Ivanov is at the Bridge Theatre. Simon Stone brings Chekhov’s comic drama into the contemporary world, following Nikolai as he tries to hold together a marriage, a career and his own sense of purpose while debt and his wife’s unexplained illnesses add to the pressure.

The story centres on a man who feels burnt out and unsure what has happened to the happiness he thought he had. With a party at the Lebedevs’ on the horizon, the production asks whether Nikolai can steady his life or whether everything is already unravelling.

Key facts: Simon Stone’s production comes from the same creative team behind The Lady from the Sea, which The Guardian described as “fantastically original, gripping and magnificent”.

No one under the age of 5 is permitted within the auditorium. The production is advised for ages 12+.
