Ivanov is Simon Stone’s contemporary staging of Chekhov’s comic drama. Nikolai seems to have a successful career and a perfect wife, but he is also dealing with mounting debts, his wife’s unexplained illnesses and the feeling that something in his life is beginning to fall apart.
As he questions whether he has ever really been happy, the story moves towards a party at the Lebedevs’, where Nikolai faces the possibility of losing his marriage, his will to live and his career all at once.
The production is created with the same creative team that brought The Lady from the Sea to life, in a version described by The Guardian as “fantastically original, gripping and magnificent”.
This is Simon Stone’s contemporary take on Chekhov’s keenly observed comic drama, following Nikolai as debts, illness and growing unhappiness put pressure on his home life and future.
Children under 5 are not permitted within the auditorium, and the production is advised for ages 12+. Latecomers may be admitted during a suitable break in the performance. No exchanges or refunds are available after purchase.
