1536 at the Ambassadors Theatre is a historical drama set in Tudor England. Written by Ava Pickett and directed by Lyndsey Turner, it follows three women who gather in an Essex field as rumours begin to spread about King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, and as those events start to echo through their own lives.
The production transferred to the West End after a sold-out run at the Almeida Theatre. Ava Pickett won the 2024 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize, and the play explores female friendship, power and violence in a world stacked against women.
Key facts: Running time 2 hours, no interval. Strictly limited run, with previews from 2 May 2026.
Age guidance: Key Stage 4 and above. This production contains strong language, violence and explicit content.
