1536 at the Ambassadors Theatre is a new historical drama by Ava Pickett, directed by Lyndsey Turner, transferring to the West End after a sold-out run at the Almeida Theatre. Set in Tudor England, it follows three women in an Essex field as rumours about King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn begin to echo through their own lives.
The play explores female friendship, gossip and violence in a world where women are under pressure from both power and tradition. Ava Pickett won the 2024 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize for the play, which brings a darkly comic edge to a story rooted in historical events.
It is playing for a strictly limited run, with previews from 2 May 2026.
Running time: 2 hours, no interval.
Age guidance: Key Stage 4 and above. This production contains strong language, violence and explicit content.
